Au Revoir.

The time has come and I am leaving Paris. I am also leaving this blog. I never intended to have the two events coincide but somehow it just feels right. I have loved the blog and I have loved you for reading it. I may be back but for now I want to take the time to write more and upload less. Thank you for your support and have a wonderful summer- wherever in the world you may be.

Le Défilé Créateur: Atelier Chardon Savard.

Last week I attended fashion shows featuring the work of students at the Atelier Chardon Savard here in Paris. I went because it was my friend Sam's runway debut. I learned a few things:
1. Sam is fierce.
2. Beautiful models are nice. Makes it hard to be jealous.
3. Running to McDonald's between shows is not high fashion.

Undiscovered.

I was recently put into contact with aspiring Vancouver designer Hamish Thwaites. His pieces are sophisticated and incredibly made for someone so young. A student now, he just might bring my home city into the fashion spotlight soon.

Karl in Cannes.

My weekend in Cannes was completed when Karl Lagerfeld strolled past me on Boulevard de la Croissette.
This is the trailor to the film he was in Cannes to promote that night at his new Chanel boutique The film is creating controversy, but a little fashion and a little scandal is always good publicity.
The film showcases Chanel's 2012 Cruise collection, screening today at Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc at the Cap d’Antibes. The film is available in its entirety 10 May at 9pm GMT on chanel.com.

“It is a movie about an ill-advised use of money which begins with violence and ends with feeling”    -Karl Lagerfeld.

L'Imparfaite.

So apparently my school produces erotica. I love this. If you are in Paris, search for L'Imparfaite at the local kiosques and support that Sciences Po is producing more than politicians and CEO's. Bis.

Happy 70th Grace.

Grace Coddington's birthday party on the 15th at Indochine in NYC boasted a pretty impressive guest list and vogue.com has posted a gallery of great shots. I have stolen here some of my favourites. Grace with Marc Jacobs- who was wearing a Comme des Garçons skull-print skirt and Grace with my fave model Karlie Kloss. Then the last shot is just for my amusement because it features two things one rarely gets to see: Anna Wintour genuinely smiling and Naomi Campbell eating.

Why Not?

You may agree to disagree but I love this look. Right down to the clog heels. Especially the clog heels. This look has everything I support: hippy influence, nautical influence, vintage handbags and a sweater you just threw on one night to go for a smoke before realizing it was perfect for real life. The only thing I dislike about this look is how nostalgic it makes me for my long hair.

They're Back...

The infamous hair scrunchy seems to be making a new millenium comeback. It may be a trickle down effect from Marc Jacobs S/S 2010 (top pic), or it may just be nineties nostalgia. We all saw the Sex and the City episode and have since believed that to wear a scrunchy is the ultimate fashion faux-pas. But I guess if American Apparel is selling them now they MUST be cool (sarcasm). But truth- they don't destroy your hair and some girls manage to make them look pretty fly. Example: My new friend Alma below...

Liz by Andy at Centre Pompidou.

It would be very glamorous to be reincarnated as a great big ring on Liz Taylor's finger  - Andy Warhol.

I wasn't aware that the Centre Pompidou here in Paris had this Warhol among its collection. It felt timely to stumble upon it after Elizabeth's recent passing. Rest in Peace Liz.

Bag I Love.

I just got back from Barcelona and my only regret is that I did not buy some of the beautiful leather bags I saw for sale in the local shops. Now I am home catching up on my fashion blog reading and I just stumbled on this picture from alltheprettybirds.com. The olive green coat, the faded denim shirt under a sweater and the white scarf is completely my look right now- I just wish I had gotten an oversized leather to tote to complete it. But c'est la vie because home in Paris its sunny and hot and clothes and bags should start getting smaller.

...Pete Doherty drinking beers next to me in Le Marais- looking not so couture and a little more like he had slept on the concrete last night. I can forgive him having taken the best table because
Babyshambles playing regularly at my place has been helping me through a crushing workload lately.

I Know What Week It Is...

I am such a fashion failure this month. The images I have seen of the collections being shown right now in Paris are incredible. Hermes, Haider Ackermann and Sonia Rykiel so far make me question why I am hoping for Spring to show up when such beautiful designs will be worn next Fall. Yet despite living in this beautiful city with fashion week in full swing I have just returned home from another beautiful city (Copenhagen) and now all the glitz here at home is one day away from subsiding. But as a good friend reminded me today- It's always fashion week in Paris. So I apologize for the lack of coverage and regret you will have to check out the standard sources that I myself will be doing to see the clothes coming down Paris' runways this week.

Louis Vuitton Picnic Set. Early 20th Century.

Louis Vuitton Camping Cot and Storage Trunk.

Today was an ideal Saturday afternoon. Croissants and coffee with good friends at Le Pain Quotidien, followed by the Louis Vuitton exhibit at Le Musée Carnavalet. I have to admit I sometimes dismiss Louis Vuitton as an overly-exposed and overly-purchased status symbol, but today's experience reminded me of the brand's historical significance and incredible craftsmanship. Museum staff was on guard against photographs at all times so I only managed a few stolen shots. I wish I could have captured more of the beautiful trunks and my favourite exhibit piece- a sketch of a Louis Vuitton camping tent from the early 1900's.
