There was Cate Blanchett in Givenchy

Louis Vuitton Picnic Set. Early 20th Century.

Louis Vuitton Camping Cot and Storage Trunk.

Today was an ideal Saturday afternoon. Croissants and coffee with good friends at Le Pain Quotidien, followed by the Louis Vuitton exhibit at Le Musée Carnavalet. I have to admit I sometimes dismiss Louis Vuitton as an overly-exposed and overly-purchased status symbol, but today's experience reminded me of the brand's historical significance and incredible craftsmanship. Museum staff was on guard against photographs at all times so I only managed a few stolen shots. I wish I could have captured more of the beautiful trunks and my favourite exhibit piece- a sketch of a Louis Vuitton camping tent from the early 1900's.

Comptoir De L'Image.

I have been meaning to go to this tiny fashion book and magazine shop in Le Marais since...well, embarrassingly since September. I finally made it with friends today after visiting the Louis Vuitton vintage trunk exhibition at the nearby Musée Carnavalet.
For such a tiny space I could have spent hours looking through sixties editions of Vogue, fashion photography and design books and the odd random gem.
Gem examples:  A photo diary of  Brooklyn biker gangs in the seventies and one of the Left bank in Paris when it was a little more eccentric/cool and a little less expensive/boring.

Say it Ain't So Galliano.

It is well-known by now that John Galliano has been suspended by Dior following his arrest Thursday night. Allegedly, Galliano directed anti-Semitic insults at a couple while having a drink at La Perle café in the Marais quartier of Paris. I really don't want to believe this. I want to believe the woman who witnessed the altercation and explained her version of the event in a story posted on Vogue.com:

"We had a table at La Perle and John Galliano sat next to us...He spoke to a couple at a nearby table to say 'Cheers' and they insulted him. An argument started and the police came, so Galliano's bodyguard suggested that they should go to the police station to sort it out. He wasn't 'busted' aggressively by police, it was very quiet and peaceful. I definitely didn't hear him say anything anti-Semitic, or against any religion, it was all very calm."

The media are all over this story. The rumours are that Galliano became belligerent and that the police were forced to intervene. Every report also seems the need to reiterate that "He was found to have been drinking alcohol at the time". No! C'est pas vrais!
He was on a terrace in Paris at a popular drink spot so is this supposed to be a sordid detail?

But in all seriousness, anti-semitism is depolorable.
Clearly, the people at the helm of Dior agree.

However, I am holding out hope that when the details of this case are clarified I can continue to adore this artist as much as I adore his art.

In other news: La Perle is a regular fave spot-
Really wish I went last Thursday...

Talented Juniour Ripley?

Too good.
Also, I promise some of my own photos soon.
Camera problems/personal flakiness factors in this.

NYC F/W 2011.

 Thakoon.
Theory.

In theory I will have the gray pants on the first model by autumn.
In reality I will probably just have her hair do.

Great Expectations.

Not really couture (no clothes) and not really concrete. Just hot.

Kopenhagen Fur. F/W 2011.

Copenhagen Fashion Week just wrapped. Paris is mild and beautiful right now- but I am headed to Copenhagen in a few weeks and I am sure the winter coats are going to have be dug out from the closet once again. Judging by the Copenhagen catwalks I might have to pull out the fur a lovely Danish friend left me when she left Paris. Bisous.

F/W 2010 Dries Van Noten.

I realize that this is an old collection, but I clipped this picture from Harper's Bazaar ages ago and just rediscovered it after moving apartments and going through papers. I  love the silky evening skirt paired with the casual top. And the colours...respect for the courageous combination. The contrast between the two pieces I think compliment each other in an effortlessly cool way. Clearly I'm a fan of this look because I can't remember putting another magazine picture on my wall since high school.

Breathless for Valentino. S/S 11 Couture.

The simple detail. J'adore. And the sleeves - I have no words.
